ABOUT FUNKTOPIA
Funktopia is an Afrofuturistic theater and music collective that blends performance,
storytelling, and world-building to center Black voices. Through residencies, performances, and
community programs, Funktopia uses art, movement, and imagination to explore what it means
to be human while building new possibilities for the future.
Founded by Jonathan Gilmore in partnership with veteran actor Stevanie Williams,
Funktopia was born out of a desire to create a new voice in theater that is both cosmic and
community rooted. Drawing inspiration from Afrofuturism, hoodoo traditions, and the
rhythms of funk, house, and jazz, Funktopia has become a platform where art is not only
performance but also community ritual.
